Show cars are amazing. One-off custom cars built from scratch to show the future direction of a company. Millions of dollars and a time compressed schedule the vehicles must be ready for the entire world. Everything must be perfect before that first image is presented around the world. I am proud to have worked on 11 of them. Here are a few of my favorites! |

client: Volvo
collaboration: Aria
role: Client relations, project management, construction of prototypes, and final installation
challenge: Exterior & interior lighting
The design team at Volvo wanted to build a very unique show vehicle. This car is fully electric. Built for both the race track and the show car circuit. Specifically designed for the Michelin Challenge it had to be light-weight to conserve battery power. Then for the Detroit Auto Show it had to have all bells and whistles.
We designed a custom full color LED system wiring every light in the entire vehicle together. The system can reproduce all the normal lighting functions of a car and also can animate with any kind of effect possible.

challenge: Interior lighting
Chrylser designed a high-end version of their popular 300 series. We created accent interior lighting around the IP and doors. The headliner was a custom backlight and edge light system. This created a wonderful interior glow. |

Calty asked for a 'ticker-tape' lighing interior. Not a direct text display, but an animated lighting strip. We built a 200 pixcell system in 3 weeks. |

client: Mitsubishi
collaboration: Aria
role: Construction of prototypes and final installation
challenge: Interior headliner lighting
The first show car we did was this Sport Truck Concept completed in 20 days. Non stop hand assembly of circuit boards & on the fly mods made it all possible.
Two bands of pixcells wrap the entire headliner. Beginning at the rear-view mirror the lights animate from front to back in a semi-regular pattern. We created a subtle feeling of motion even while the vehicle is standing still. |
