In 2000 I started Visopia, a digital lighting company. It was a new type of company where a small core of people with a large network of freelancers could accomplish a wide variety of small to large projects.
Over the next 7 years it quickly grew into a design-technology company with 4 partners: Ronny Bagdadi, Dr. Carlo Quinonez, Dr. Steven Schkolne and myself. Nearly all of the projects in the lamps, show cars, and environments sections were accomplished with the help of all the partners.
Visopia was a highly creative, intelligent and nimble group that could tackle the most complex lighting problems. Many of the projects were one-off design-build commissions that were not possible by anybody else. In the process we invented new technologies and worked on high profile projects that got us recognized by the press, patent office, and our peers.
In 2007 the partners decided to break out and go their own directions. Visopia has disbanded, but the idea lives on. |
